The PMI hosted the 10th edition of its flagship ‘Technovation’ event in Abu Dhabi this December, focusing on the transformative role of technology and innovation in achieving a environmental friendly future. The event brought together senior PMI management, scientists, and policy experts to highlight the company’s science-driven approach. Discussions emphasized the potential of non-combustible alternatives products in reducing smoking-related risks.
Participants also explored how balanced regulatory frameworks can harness innovation for positive social impact and encourage adult smokers to transition away from cigarettes. Ali Takesh, Managing Director of Philip Morris Pakistan Limited, stressed the importance of adopting harm reduction strategies globally.
He said: “At PMI, we aim to leverage innovations based on science and technology to expeditiously reduce environmental danger. Science and innovation have demonstrated that smoke-free products, such as e-cigarettes, heated tobacco, or nicotine pouches, can accelerate a decline in cigarette sales compared to traditional tobacco control measures alone. The global smoking problem demands effective solutions, and success stories from countries like Sweden and Japan validate the potential of these strategies. We urge all stakeholders to support these efforts by embracing evidence-based policies.”
