Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a reward of Rs15 crore for Arshad Nadeem for making history for Pakistan at Paris Olympics 2024
PM Sharif made the announcement in a special ceremony for the national hero on eve of Independence Day.
Javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem arrived at Allama Iqbal International Airport on Thursday to a hero’s welcome after making history with his record-breaking performance at the Olympic Games.
The 27-year-old, hailing from a small village near Mian Channu, achieved a historic milestone by becoming Pakistan’s first individual gold medallist with a remarkable throw of 92.97 meters, securing his place in sports history.
Nadeem’s victory in Paris marked the country’s first Olympic gold since 1984, when the national hockey team triumphed in Los Angeles. It was also Pakistan’s first Olympic medal of any kind since the hockey team won bronze at the 1992 Barcelona Games. His achievement has cemented Nadeem’s status as Pakistan’s greatest Olympian.
Upon his return, Nadeem was greeted by enthusiastic applause from hundreds of fans, and the streets were filled with cheers as he was escorted home with high-level dignitary protocol.
Despite the warm reception, Nadeem was keen to reunite with his family. After a brief interaction with the cheering crowd and some photographs, he promptly left the airport for his hometown.
Nadeem’s historic accomplishment has earned him widespread recognition. President Asif Ali Zardari announced on Saturday that Nadeem would receive the prestigious Hilal-e-Imtiaz in honor of his exceptional performance. Additionally, he has been awarded a total cash prize of Rs151 million from the governments of Punjab and Sindh. The National Assembly has also passed a resolution recommending the highest civil award for Nadeem.
