The ongoing protest-sit in of workers and daily wagers of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir in support of their demands has entered 708th day, today.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the pro-test-sin is taking place outside the office of Chief Engineer PHE Department at BC Road office complex in Jammu.
These hapless workers of the PHE Department are on strike since June 22, 2022, demanding regularization & enhancement of minimum wages as per Indian government norms in IIOJK and release of over 78 months’ wages of the daily wagers.
Despite several rounds of talks with higher au-thorities in the Department, their issues have not been resolved yet.
A protest was held by male staff nurses at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Jammu, citing concerns over their treatment by doctors.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the demonstration, which lasted approximately half an hour, took place in the Emergency Unit and resulted in a temporary suspension of work.
The nurses are seeking a prompt and impartial investigation into the matter. Hospital administra-tion has announced an inquiry into the incident, promising appropriate action if any wrongdoing is found.
In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kash-mir, people including women and children staged protest in Jammu against the New Delhi-installed territory’s administration for showing indifference to provide water supply amidst the ongoing heat-wave conditions. According to Kashmir Media Service, scores of women and some children from the Jammu East Colony marched to the Jammu railway station to protest against the water crisis in their area. The protesters, some of them carrying buckets, stopped the Vande Bharat train at a railway station and threatened to block all incoming and outgoing trains if the water crisis in their colony was not addressed urgently.
“There has been no regular water supply to our colony for the past four months. We have approached the authorities, but nothing has been done. We have to fetch water from long distances even for cooking and drinking,” said the protesters.
“Life has become unbearable in the hot weather conditions”, they added.—KMS
