In a major triumph for the leading political party of the country, the Peshawar High Court on Wednesday nullified the Election Commission of Pakistan’s order of stripping the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf of its iconic symbol Bat and allowed the party to contest forthcoming general elections under bat as its election emblem.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf that had moved Peshawar High Court to challenge the Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision declaring the intra-party election as null and void and revoking their electoral symbol “bat”, rejoiced the verdict with its chairman saying “No one can stop PTI now”. In its verdict, the court termed the ECP’s decision “incorrect” further directing the electoral watchdog to upload the PTI’s certificate on its website.
On December, 26, 2023, a two members bench of the Peshawar High Court had suspended the Election Commission of Pakistan’s verdict which had PTI’s intra-party elections ‘unlawful’ and stripped the party of its iconic ‘bat’ electoral symbol. The Court had restored the party’s iconic election symbol Bat till a final decision on the petition after the winter breaks. However, the ECP had filed a petition in the Peshawar High Court against granting stay to its decision of stripping PTI of the Bat as its election symbol.
