PERTH – Australia won the toss and decided to bat first against Pakistan in the first game of the three-match Test series at Perth Stadium on Thursday.
The hosts took a flying start with David Warner and Usman Khawaja building a healthy opening partnership but Shaheen Afridi got a breakthrough when he removed Khawaja for 41. The Aussies lost another quick wicket when Faheem Ashraf dismissed Marnus Labuschagne for 16.
However, Warner has completed his ton, leading his side to build a strong total on Day 1 of the game. He has been joined by Steve Smith () at the crease.
As of 43 overs, Aussies stand at 190-2 as Shaheens are making efforts to get more scalps.
Pakistan captain Shan Masood included two debutants in his side, adding pacemen Aamer Jamal and Khurram Shahzad to an attack spearheaded by Shaheen Shah Afridi. They have no specialist spinner.
