The Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oxfam in Pakistan that is valid for 2 years from the date of signing. The purpose of this Memorandum of Understanding is to set forth the framework for a collaboration between the two institutions in the areas of gender-based violence through edutainment approach in the university settings. Oxfam agrees under the contract to technically assist SSUET in setting up, or strengthening, as the case may be, the Harassment Complaint Cell (HCC), and strengthening its capacity in line with HECs Policy on Protection Against Sexual Harassment in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) developed by Higher Education Commission and the Protection Against Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2010. Oxfam will facilitate Sir Syed University in painting wall murals in the institute reflecting various dimensions of gender-based violence, gender stereotypes and gender power imbalances. The university will be involved in the development and screening of the 4 animated movies focusing on youth and gender-based violence on the social media platforms. Then the sessions will be held at the campus with the students and teachers on gender stereotypes and adverse social norms that lead to Violence Against Women and Girls. Sir Syed University will encourage and engage students in conducting researches on violence against women and girls that includes gender sensitization in academic and recreational activities. Registrar Cdre. (R) Syed Sarfraz Ali signed the MoU on behalf of the Sir Syed University while the Country Director OiP, Syed Shahnawaz Ali signed on behalf of the Oxfam in Pakistan. The signing ceremony was attended by the Vice Chancellor SSUET, Prof. Dr.ValiUddin, Deans, Director ORIC and others.
