Over 9 million vaccinated against Hepatitis B, Dr Azra told

Over 9.044 million people have been vaccinated for Hepatitis B, besides 4230 screening and vaccination camps across Sindh, since the initiation of the Hepatitis Prevention and Control Program in the province.

This was informed to Minister for Health and Population Welfare Dr. AzraPechuho while chairing a meeting, said a statement on Friday.

The program has established treatment centers at teaching district and tehsil hospital level, where screening, vaccination, diagnostic and treatment services are provided.

Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Larkana and Sukkur have FCR (Hepatitis screening) tests provided and utilized free of cost.

The meeting was attended by Parliamentary Secretary Health and Secretary Health as well as Director General Health.

The participants were told that the cold storage facilities as well as warehouses for storage of resources needed for logistics and medicine were also available under this program.

The program team had launched campaigns through electronic as well as print media to organize awareness seminars, school sessions, neighborhood meetings and camps for the prevention and treatment of Hepatitis.         I

t was also discussed to involve maternity homes, RMNCH centers, all medical facilities that involve obstetrician services to provide prenatal screenings for Hepatitis B. The vaccinations for the same must be made available at all medical levels.

Those who have tested positive for tuberculosis must be screened for HIV and vice versa to increase tracing and create more efficient tracking of the trends of communicable diseases.
