ORIC VUP organizes seminar on ‘Intellectual Property Rights’

The Office of the Research, Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC) Virtual University of Pakistan, with the collaboration of Intellectual Property Organization organized a one-day seminar on ‘Intellectual Property Rights’ to create awareness among the faculty members and other researchers of Virtual University on how to protect & register their research, intellectual/ innovative work(s).

Assistant Director ORIC, Sammer Mumtaz hosted the event along with Deputy Director ORIC Dr. Syed Salman Hassan. Many faculty members and researchers attended the event with a great passion.

Director ORIC Dr. Arshad Hussain Hashmi delivered a welcome note and emphasized on the importance of Intellectual Property Rights.

Assistant Controller Shakria Khursheed from Intellectual Property Office Lahore (IPO) delivered a talk, covering in detail the Intellectual Property Rights, Copyrights, Patents and Trademarks, highlighting their importance and what all actions are to be taken by an individual to protect his/her innovative work.

She also explained the procedure of filing the patents.

Speaking at the event Director IPO Lahore, Umar Ashraf explained to the researchers that a patent grants you an exclusive right to make, use, and sell the invention. Moreover, he mentioned that for a product to be patented, it must follow the already defined process.

Afterwards, Shakria and Umar engaged with the audience to answer their questions on all the aspects of Intellectual Property. At the end of the event, souvenirs were awarded among the resource persons.
