LAHORE – The Punjab government has cleared air about restrictions on outdoor sports activities in smog-hit Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Multan districts.

Besides revising timings for markets, the Punjab banned outdoor activities including sports events and dining in open spaces due to alarming rise in the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Lahore and three other districts.

The para 5 (a) of the earlier issued notification directed “Closure of all outdoor activities including outdoor sports events, exhibitions and festivals, outdoor dining of restaurants”.

However, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) clarified that the “outdoor sports events” mentioned in para 5 (a) “refers solely to planned events being held as such, and does not apply to outdoor sports being undertaken by individual adults at clubs”.

“However, it is further clarified that no children under 18 years are permitted to indulge in outdoor sports activities”, reads a notification issued by Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh, Director General of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Punjab.
