No compromise on repatriation of illegal immigrants, says Pakistan minister

ISLAMABAD – Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti has categorically stated that no compromise will be made on the repatriation of illegal foreign nationals, including Afghans, as deadline for volunteer ends on October 31.

Addressing a press conference, the minister ruled out a perception that the action only aims at Afghan nationals, saying all foreign nationals staying in Pakistan without legal documents will be repatriated. He said the government is encouraging those who are voluntarily moving back to their homelands, adding that an illegal immigrant family is allowed to carry currency worth Rs50,000 only.

He said modalities were being finalised if the amount owned by the illegal foreign nationals exceeds Rs50,000.

Bugti said special centres have been setup across the country where the illegal immigrants, who fails to return before the deadline, will be kept. He said all these illegal immigrants will be provided facility of food and medical before they are repatriated to their country.

He said women, children and elderly illegal immigrants will be handled respectfully. The minister said the government has completed geo-fencing of all illegal foreign nationals and they cannot hide from the state.

Bugti also warned the Pakistani nationals facilitating the illegal immigrants of action, saying people involved in such activities will have to face the music.
