Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has announced a series of pivotal decisions aimed at revitalizing the domestic cricket structure in the country.
These measures are expected to strengthen the domestic cricket system, enhance coaching standards, promote talent development, and bridge the gap between domestic and international cricket levels.
Mohsin Naqvi emphasized the need to strengthen the domestic cricket system by revising contracts and ensuring the organization of tournaments across all three formats. This initiative aims to elevate the quality of competition and provide a robust platform for players to showcase their skills.
Naqvi also approved a comprehensive plan to promote domestic cricket. “Quality domestic cricket will be promoted at all levels,” he stressed. He further said that the best coaches will train new talent and improve their skills.
In a bid to ensure fairness and competitiveness, Naqvi underscored that player selections will be strictly based on performance, fitness, and merit. He emphasized that there would be no compromises on these criteria.
Naqvi highlighted the role of robust domestic cricket in reducing the gap between domestic and international standards. “Good domestic cricket will help reduce the gap of international cricket,” he remarked.
He stressed that players must prove themselves in domestic cricket to get a spot in the national team, emphasizing the significance of performance and fitness in the selections.
Looking ahead, Naqvi expressed urgency in identifying and nurturing new talent, describing it as an emergency priority. He underscored the PCB’s commitment to proactive measures aimed at discovering and honing young cricketers who can potentially represent Pakistan on the global stage.—NNI
