The ID document serves as alternate to CNIC for personal identification within Pakistan and overseas. Residents need to submit the NICOP at domestic or international entry or exit points. With this, Pakisatni citizens can travel back to homeland without needing a visa if they hold dual nationality.
Children born abroad to Pakistani parents can also get NICOP from Pakistani embassy. NICOP has an expiration date, which can vary depending on the individual. For minors, the card is valid for either 10 years or until the child reaches 18 years of age.
