The director-general of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi has ordered filing corruption references immediately after getting evidences in different inquiries, it was learnt on Wednesday. The sources have said DG NAB Karachi Najaf Mirza convened an important session where he was briefed over different corruption inquiries, including wheat scandal and probe against the provincial minister for information technology TaimurTalpur. The sources disclosed that a comprehensive report was also presented in the meeting regarding the inquiries initiated against political personalities and 19 government departments. A comprehensive report was also submitted over the absence of former Sindh minister NisarKhuhro in the wheat scandal. It is to note that NAB Sindh chapter had recovered more than Rs10 billion in wheat scandal under the inquiries opened against the provincial food department for the theft of wheat worth more than Rs15 billion. A report released by NAB showed that nine inquiries were opened against Sindh Food Department in Sukkur as wheat worth more than Rs15 billion had been stolen in nine districts. The flour mill owners struck plea bargain forRs2.112 billion during the NAB investigation, the report said. It emerged that wheat worth Rs745.680 million had been sent to Karachi from nine districts of Sindh while the stocks vanished during its transportation. The anti-corruption watchdog received money worth Rs8.126 billion for the wheat acquired on 180-day credit. The DG NAB Karachi also reviewed the list of 16 cases filed against TaimurTalpur. It emerged that Taimur r and his father YousufTalpur were also accused in financial irregularities in public funds and illegal allotment of government land. NAB Karachi’s Deputy Director SyedaRumlaNaqvi has written to Deputy Commissioner of District Umerkot for provision of record against Minister NawabTaimurTalpur in a case of acquiring assets beyond known sources of income. The allegations against the minister are based on the complaint of MaulaBux and some others who have leveled serious allegations of corruption. The sources said that Najaf Mirza directed all high-level officials of the anti-corruption watchdog to expedite investigation process and file reference immediately after grabbing corruption evidences.
