ISLAMABAD – Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi responded to circulating rumors suggesting removal of President Asif Ali Zardari and the introduction of a new constitutional amendment.
Responding to journo’s question during presser, Naqvi rejected speculation outright and urged both the media and the public to refrain from political debates during the sacred days of Ashura. “These are sensitive days of religious significance. Politics should take a back seat right now,” Naqvi added.
He also addressed the growing buzz on social media, urging people not to pay heed to unverified claims and conspiracy theories. “Our opponents are uncomfortable with the stability of the current government,” Naqvi said. “The reason is simple — the civil and military leadership are on the same page.”
Naqvi’s statement comes at a time when political chatter and unconfirmed reports have been dominating online spaces, fueling speculation about possible political shifts at the top.
The development comes after journalist Azaz Syed claimed that powerful forces in Pakistan are working behind scenes to remove President Asif Ali Zardari. He said a quiet campaign is underway to pressure Zardari into resigning, with efforts aimed at avoiding open confrontation.
Syed hinted that a highly influential figure could be lined up to take his place, suggesting a possible engineered transition at the top. The revelation has sparked widespread speculation on social media, with journalist Azhar Abbas adding to the intrigue through a cryptic tweet.
