Salahuddin Haider

EMBOLDENED by Kashmir annexation in August this year, Indian prime minister and his BJP’s plans to turn the country a Hindu State, has not only backfired but has begun to prove suicidal for both the PM and the party, and with local Hindu population, Bengal chief minister Mamta Bannerjee and eminent politician Shashi Tharoor spitting venom against anti-Muslim laws, Nirender Modi’s political career seems at the dead end.
Massive protests within and outside Parliament, road blocks, agitation against new legislation pushed through rather hurriedly to bear legitimacy, has already caused enough damage to the ruling clique, evidence of which was available from its defeat in Jharkand, and another State elections a fortnight ago, lending support to fears that BJP will be out of power and perhaps eliminated from political altogether.
But while this is all proving dangerous for BJP and Nirender Modi, a silver lining also appears as Hindus supporting local Muslim population, may salvage India’s democracy and its commitment to Mahatama Gandhi’s preference and preaching for Ahinsa Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday said the National Population Register (NPR) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) were against the poor people and minorities of the country, while asserting that he will not fill up the NPR form. “Be it the NPR or the NRC, these are against the poor people, minorities and Muslims of the country,” was his candid and unambiguous remark. “The question is whether we want the NRC or employment? If the need arises, I will be the first person not to fill up any form.
Will you support me or not? If we do not fill up the form, we will be thrown out. I will not fill up the form, you say whether you will fill up the form or not?,” Yadav asked young SP leaders. “I would like to tell the policemen, who are wielding lathis on people, that the certificates of their mothers and fathers will also be sought,” he said. All Indians should come forward to save the country from those violating the Constitution, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said. He alleged that this (CAA and NRC) was being done so that the public did not raise any questions about the poor state of the economy and basic problems. “During demonetisation, the government had said corruption will end, but that proved to be untrue. Due to demonetisation, a number of banks closed down, while the GST (Goods and Services Tax) ruined businesses.
The condition is such that the country’s economy has come out of the ICU and gone to the ICCU,” Yadav said. “During the days of the SP government (in Uttar Pradesh), youngsters got laptops, while the BJP is taking them towards toilets. Understand the difference,” he added. India’s tourism industry hit hard by citizenship law protests, India’s internet shutdowns costing mobile carriers big money.
Mass protests against a contentious citizenship law continue across India amid fears the legislation is part of the Hindu nationalist government’s agenda to marginalise the country’s 200 million Muslims. That the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) grants citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and Christians from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh but blocks naturalisation for Muslims, is too well known by now to be recounted, it is now clear that Muslim areas, mosques and places of worship is being attacked in Capital city of New Delhi.
Voice recordings are available from a number of Indian citizens, ladies, children, senior citizens, asking for the world opinion to raise voice for their salvation. They fear ouster from India Exposing the game, Shahsi Tharoor asked that If the Indian citizens are asked to prove their citizenship, in a country where poor and the minorities are still deprived of birth certificates, nationality documents, how could this be possible? H revealed that even a cabinet minister of Modi, former army chief V K Singh, has to knock at the court doors for his birth right.
The game is on, but it is a dangerous game, and may well threaten India’s integrity and prove venomous for its unity. But who can make Modi understand whose hands are red with blood stains of Muslims of Gujrat of which he was chief minister before donning the mantle of Union leadership.
