Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid Srinagar has expressed deep regret over the restrictions imposed by the authorities of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir on the religious activities of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Anjuman in a statement said that apart from disallowing the Mirwaiz from delivering the weekly Juma sermon at Jamia Masjid Srinagar he is also not allowed to perform his religious duties which is unfortunate on the part of the occupation authorities.

The Mirwaiz was scheduled to addressing a gathering at the shrine of Peer Dastgir Sahib in Khanyar area of Srinagar, today, in connection with the Urs of Hazrat Peeran-e-Peer Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA), but was not allowed to go there. Even earlier, Mirwaiz was not allowed to attend a Seerat conference at the shrine of Peer Dastgir Sahib at Sarai Bala in Srinagar.

This is the fifth year in a row that the Mirwaiz has been detained in his residence and is not being allowed to carry out his religious responsibilities, the Auqaf said, adding that the authorities are not giving any reasonable reason for their arbitrary actions. The Anjuman said that a large number of people had gathered at the shrine of Peer Dastgir Sahib in Khanyar to listen to the sermon of the Mirwaiz, but due to his detention, they returned deeply disappointed.

Such actions of the authorities are totally unjustified and expose their tall claims of normalcy, the Anjuman said.—KMS
