Mayor seeks 1pc of cess collected in Karachi for city

City Mayor Wasim Akhtar said on Saturday that Karachi had the right to get one per cent cess from the revenue collected in the metropolis.
“Out of Rs300 billion collected revenue, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation should be given an additional Rs3bn per annum in the head of cess”, he said.
He said this while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Executive Dental Clinic established in the Karachi Medical and Dental College.
Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Syed Saif-ur-Rehman, senior director medical services Dr Salma Kausar, college principal Prof Dr Mahmood Haider, faculty members and students were also present.
The mayor said that the provincial government was not giving resources and powers to the municipal administration under the SLGA 2013, therefore he was now going to court because now all problems were resolved in courts only.
He said that the Sindh government was not interested in solving the problems of people. Mayor Akhtar said that Karachi was not getting funds in accordance with the law.—APP
