The illegally detained All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Masarrat Aalam Butt, has paid rich tributes to the martyrs of Gaw Kadal, Handwara and Kupwara massacres.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian troops had martyred over 50 civilians in Gaw Kadal area of Srinagar on January 21, 1990, 25 in Handwara on January 25, 1990, and 27 on January 27, 1994 in Kupwara.

Masarrat Aalam Butt in a message from New Delhi’s Tihar jail asked the people to hold prayers for the Kashmiri martyrs and register protests against the genocide of the innocent people, extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, custodial disappearances and imposition of Hindutva ideology by Indian forces in the occupied territory on the anniversaries of these mass killings.

The APHC Chairman said that the Kashmiris had witnessed many massacres, including Gaw Kadal, Razekadal, Bijbehara, Sopore, Handwara and Kupwara in their struggle for freedom from Indian illegal occupation. He said India, despite all its tyranny, would never succeed in suppressing the Kashmiris’ struggle for securing their right to self-determination.

Masarrat Aalam Butt also appealed to the peace and freedom-loving Kashmiris to observe Indian Republic Day on January 26 as a Black Day to convey the message to the world that India’s claims of being a democratic republic are hollow as it continues to deny them their right to self-determination for the last over seven decades. He urged the United Nations to take serious measures to implement its resolutions on the Kashmir dispute to settle the Kashmir dispute.

Meanwhile, incarcerated APHC General Secretary Molvi Bashir Irfani in a statement in Srinagar said India is deceiving the world and hiding its crimes in occupied Kashmir by pretending itself as a democracy.

He said 76 years ago the Indian troops illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir in clear violation of international law and humanitarian principles and since then they have been committing the worst human rights violations in the territory.—KMS
