Madhubala, a 16-year-old elephant who spent years in solitary confinement at Karachi Zoo, was finally moved to Safari Park on Tuesday. After 15 long years, the elephant will be reunited with her family members, Sonia and Malika. The relocation was carried out in a container lifted by crane, and the process was closely supervised by Four Paws, a global animal welfare organization. Prior to the move, Madhubala underwent training to safely enter and exit the container, as confirmed by Four Paws.

The transfer marks a significant milestone for the elephant, who, along with other African elephants treated by Four Paws in Karachi in 2022, had been suffering from health issues, including a dental infection and pain from a broken tusk. With Madhubala’s arrival, the number of elephants at Safari Park will increase to three. The organization also previously assisted in relocating Kaavan, known as the “world’s loneliest elephant,” from Islamabad to Cambodia in 2020.
