A video of lawyers firing shots in the air to celebrate their victory in the annual elections of the Karachi Bar Association has surfaced online.The elections were held on Saturday and the final results were announcedon the same day.Amir Nawaz Waraich was elected as the President of the association with2737 votes, while Nasrullah Jalbani became the Vice President with 2257votes. Akhtar Ali Chana secured the position of General Secretary with1687 votes, and Jahanzeb Murree was chosen as the Joint Secretary with1893 votes. Raheel Samsam, Sheikh Kashif Amjad, and Ayaz Solangi wereelected as the Treasurer, Librarian, and Managing Committee Chairpersonrespectively.
The other ten members of the Managing Committee were Adnan Farooq, AbdulFahim, Abdul Qadir Soomro, Fauzia Fateh, Zafar Baloch, Zahid Hussain,Hasina Tabsam, Abdul Malik, Muhammad Aslam, and Tahir Mehmood.The winners and their supporters celebrated their victory bydistributing sweets, chanting slogans, and firing shots in the airoutside the city court.The video of the aerial firing has sparked outrage and criticism fromthe public and the authorities.
