LAHORE – The surge in chicken prices continues to dent consumers, especially those relying on poultry meat as prices crossed over Rs750 per kg in parts of Punjab with the start of New Year.
The staggering rise of around Rs300 in chicken meat price jacked up grocery bills, particularly for salaried individuals.
As of first week of January, the chicken is being sold at different prices, rating from Rs650-Rs750 per kilogram, and the situation raised questions as the price was previously hovered around Rs450 in mid-December 2024.
As per the official rate list shared by the District government, chicken meat price is Rs595; eggs per dozen rate is Rs329.

Despite efforts by authorities, there appears to be little control over the rising prices, and the issue has raised alarms about both the market dynamics and the availability of poultry products in the region.
The significant increase in chicken prices also affect restaurants, which may raise menu prices or limit chicken dishes.
