Lahore, Punjab weather: Rains, hailstorms likely during weekend

LAHORE– Rains and windstorms with few hailstorms are likely in Lahore and parts of Punjab on Friday night and during the weekend with occasional gaps.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), westerly wave prevails over upper/central parts of Pakistan which will likely persist during the next three days.

Under these weather conditions, intermittent rains and windstorms are likely at isolated places in Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Jhelum, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Mianwali, Sargodha, Bakkar, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore and surroundings on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday.

Few hailstorm may also occur during the period. Gusty/dust raising winds with light rain/thunderstorm/lightning are also likely at isolated places in southern and central districts. Rains, strong winds, hailstorms and lightning may damage loose structures like electric poles, trees, vehicles and solar panels.

Lahore’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 44°C and 46°C on Saturday and Sunday, and between 43°C and 45°C on Monday.

Meanwhile, hot and dry weather prevailed in most parts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. Very hot weather prevailed in the plain areas.

Bahawalnagar remained the hottest place in Punjab, where the maximum temperature was recorded at 49°C. The maximum temperature in Bhakkar, Sargodha, Sahiwal and Bahawalpur was recorded at 48°C.

In Lahore, the maximum temperature was recorded at 45°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 24 per cent.
