Ladakh ranks second in unemployment after Andaman and Nicobar Island

Contrary to the tall claims of the Indian occupation regime, over 26.5% graduates in Ladakh part of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir are unemployed against 13.4 per cent in India, a government survey has revealed. According to Kashmir Media Service, the figure contradicts the Modi regime’s claim that occupied Jammu and Kashmir witnessed dvelopment after abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of the territory into two so-called union territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

As per the latest Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), conducted by the Indian Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, the lowest unemployment rate among graduates aged 15 years and above in India witnessed in Chandigarh at 5.6%, which was followed by New Delhi with 5.7% during 2022-23.

The data showed the highest unemployment in Andaman and Nicobar Island at 33%, followed by occupied Ladakh (26.5%) and Andhra Pradesh at 24%.

Among larger states, the unemployment rate was high in Rajasthan at 23.1% and in Odisha at 21.9%. Joblessness or unemployment rate is defined as the percentage of unemployed persons in the labour force. The NSSO had launched the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) in April 2017.—KMS
