The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), in collaboration with the World Bank, has established a daycare center named after former Managing Director Fareeda Salam as part of its Gender Action Plan. The initiative aims to empower female employees and promote their active participation within the organization.
The daycare center, located at the KWSC central head office, was inaugurated by KWSC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Engineer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed on Thursday.The inauguration ceremony was attended by several prominent figures, including KWSC Chief Operating Officer Engineer Asadullah Khan, KWSC’s Deputy Managing Director of Human Resource Department Muhammad Saqib, former Managing Director Fareeda Salam, TTL World Bank Tiziana Smith, Gender Specialist World Bank MahRukh, Gender Specialist KWSC HamidaKaleem, KWSC’s Deputy Managing Director Finance Syed AamirRasheed, Director IT Abdul Ghani Sheikh, and Director Admin SajidNizam.
The CEO of KWSC said that the center was established to bridge the gender gap and enhance women’s capabilities in all sectors. He mentioned that they have received hundreds of applications, from which selected women would undergo training in three phases focusing on women empowerment, IT, and leadership. He said that outstanding employees would receive further training to become lead trainers. Additionally, KWSC has designated specific spaces for women, such as separate washrooms, daycare centers, and a prayer room.
Ahmed highlighted that such initiatives play a crucial role in empowering female employees and will be instrumental in strengthening the corporation. During the event, Assistant Communication Specialist Alina Sultan presented a documentary on the ongoing training at KWSC. This marks the first time in the KWSC’s history that a daycare center has been established for female employees, a significant step taken by the CEO Syed Salahuddin Ahmed. His efforts have been widely appreciated by KWSC officials, employees, and various other stakeholders, who have praised his dedication and commitment to empowering women within the organization.
