Tension shows no sign of abating

Amid provincial government claims of cease fire between the rival groups in the violence-hit Kurram Tribal district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the bloodiest clashes continued on the ninth consecutive day, and more than a dozen more killed on Friday taking the death toll to more than 125 and around 200 wounded in a week time infighting.
“Firing incidents in various areas of District Kurram have claimed 14 more lives and left 17 injured on the ninth day of ongoing tribal clashes,” the District administration officials and Police said on Friday.
A 10-day truce was brokered earlier in the week, but intermittent violence has rendered it ineffective.
The district administration confirmed that the Peshawar-Parachinar highway has been shut for the eighth day in a row, severely affecting daily life and halting trade activities.
The Deputy Commissioner of Kurram, Javedullah Mehsud, confirmed that the road closure has also halted trade at the Kharlachi border with Afghanistan, further exacerbating the economic impact on the region.
