The Academic Council of the University of Karachi has advised the varsity to seek the legal opinion of the Sindh government regarding the two-year bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes.
A meeting of the Academic Council was held on Monday in which a five-member committee was constituted in this regard.
Meanwhile, Professor Jamil Hassan Kazmi was appointed as the convener of the committee.
Dr Zaheer, Dr Nasiruddin Khan, Dr Anila Amber Malik, and Dr Naeem Khalid were chosen as the members of the committee.
The Academic Council meeting was held under the chairmanship of KU’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, while the meeting took place at the Arts Auditorium.
During the convention, it was decided that admissions in MPhil and PhD programmes for the year 2021 would be given as per the varsity’s existing admission policy.
It was also decided that a detailed report regarding the new PhD policy — recently introduced by the Higher Education Commission-Islamabad — would be sent to the HEC as the varsity needs some clarification in this regard.
Meanwhile, KU would conduct a written test for the MPhil, PhD, MS, MD programmes 2021 which was postponed last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the meeting, it was also decided that after obtaining a degree in a master’s programme from the University of Karachi on a regular basis in the morning programme, a student would be eligible to do another master in any department in the evening programme.
