KHYBER Pakhtunkhwa Police has unveiled a groundbreaking Artificial Intelligence (AI) security control system in Peshawar, the first of its kind in the country. Developed at the Central Police Office, the system has commenced data and face detection analysis of approximately 57,000 individuals entering the city’s red zone on a daily basis. The AI security system will gather and process data on every person, vehicle and motorcycle entering the red zone, which includes prominent locations. The city of Peshawar has in recent years faced worst kind of terrorist acts. Most recently, a mosque in police lines was attacked by the terrorists. In this context, use of this latest technology will go a long way in securing important installations within the city.
Artificial Intelligence has emerged as a game changer across various industries and its application in the security domain is revolutionizing traditional law enforcement practices. This AI system integrates sophisticated surveillance technologies, including facial recognition, object detection and behaviour analysis. By analyzing vast amounts of data in real time, the system can swiftly identify and potential suspects, monitor high risk areas and detect suspicious activities. This unparalleled surveillance capability empowers law enforcement agencies to proactively address security concerns and prevent crimes. Because of its effectiveness, many countries have implemented similar technology based systems to manage traffic and enhance security control. Inspector General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Akhtar Hayat Khan, in an interview, stated that this AI system will revolutionise the investigation process which traditionally relies on retrieving footage from CCTV cameras, often leading to delays and obstacles. With the new AI system, crucial data can be accessed in real-time, enabling swift action and arrest of suspects. We really appreciate the KP police for their forward-looking approach and being the first in the country to adopt this AI security control system. We expect that with the passage of time, the same model will be replicated in other main cities of KP. Given the security threats, it is important that other provinces also follow the suit. With this, the individuals will not be able to evade law.
