K-Electric (KE) has intensified its efforts to combat electricity theft, removing over 10,000 kilograms of illegal wires, commonly known as kundas, in the Bin Qasim area during the past four months.
In collaboration with law enforcement agencies, KE carried out 88 targeted operations aimed at cracking down on electricity theft and recovering unpaid bills. The operations revealed that 6,096 unauthorized connections were stealing approximately 2.63 million electricity units monthly.
KE disconnected 4,596 residential, 1,427 commercial connections, and 46 roadside stalls found involved in power theft. KE stated that 70 percent of its network is currently free from loadshedding, with efforts focused on reducing losses in high-theft areas. A locality’s loss profile, driven by electricity theft and unpaid bills, directly influences its loadshedding schedule. Areas with minimal theft and timely bill payments enjoy uninterrupted power supply.
KE has called on customers, community leaders, and local representatives to discourage electricity theft and promote responsible electricity usage. The utility emphasized that combating power theft is crucial for sustainable energy delivery across Karachi. KE urged the government to prioritize the elimination of electricity theft, highlighting the need for joint efforts to ensure uninterrupted and reliable power for all.
