In anticipation of heavy rains, Director General of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA), Syed Shujaat Hussain, has canceled all leaves of relevant officers and employees, according to a KDA spokesperson. Emergency drainage work will be carried out on a priority basis in KDA townships and schemes, said the DG, urging officers to ensure that dewatering pumps, generators, and other essential equipment are in working order during the drainage process.
DG Hussain also directed that boards be placed around open manholes and road potholes for safety. He emphasized that all officers and staff should be visible in the field 24/7 to manage any emergencies. “Negligence or carelessness during water drainage will not be tolerated,” he warned. A rain emergency cell has been established on the first floor of the Civic Center main office under special directives from the DG, the spokesperson added.
