A powerful monsoon weather system is set to bring substantial rainfall to Sindh, with forecasts indicating heavy downpours in various districts. Chief Meteorologist SardarSarfaraz announced on Tuesday that the system is expected to deliver between 300 and 400mm of rain in Thatta and Badin districts. Karachi is likely to experience 150 to 200mm of rainfall. The monsoon rains, which are predicted to intensify as the weather system moves closer, will affect Karachi and other parts of Sindh from August 28 to 30, with intermittent breaks.

The rain is expected to start in the afternoon and continue until August 30, raising concerns about potential urban flooding in Karachi. Sindh Chief Minister briefed on the impending rainfall during a rain emergency session in Karachi on Monday. Chief Meteorologist Sarfaraz indicated that the heavy rainfall will continue in Karachi from August 27 to 31. A new monsoon system is anticipated in the first week of September, expected to bring an additional 150 to 200mm of rain to Karachi and up to 500mm in Badin, Tando Muhammad Khan, Thar Parkar, and Umarkot districts. Districts such as Thatta, Sujawal, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, and Nawab Shah could receive between 250 and 300mm of rainfall.

Other regions in Sindh may see 70 to 100mm of rain. Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Salman Shah has warned of “very heavy rainfall” on August 28, potentially leading to flooding in Dadu, QambarShahdadkot, Jacobabad, and Jamshoro.

In response, Chief Minister Shah has instructed divisional commissioners to prepare for the situation, and local governments have been directed to monitor drains and arrange water drainage machinery. Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani confirmed that machinery has been provided for drain and nullah cleaning, while Karachi Mayor MurtazaWahab highlighted improvements to the water board’s drainage system.
