Karachi, Hyderabad, Sindh weather update; widespread rains likely

KARACHI – Widespread rains with isolated heavy falls are likely in Karachi, Hyderabad and parts of Sindh on Sunday night, Monday and Tuesday with occasional gaps.

Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a well-marked low pressure lies over northwest Madhya Pradesh and surroundings, and moving westwards. Due to this low-pressure system, strong monsoon currents are expected to penetrate southern parts of the country from tonight and in upper parts from tomorrow evening/night.

Under these conditions, rains are likely at isolated places in Tharparkar, Nagarparkar, Islamkot, Mithi, Mirpur Khas, Umarkot and surroundings on Sunday night.

On Monday and Tuesday, widespread rains with isolated heavy falls are likely in Tharparkar, Nagarparkar, Islamkot, Mithi, Mirpur Khas, Umarkot, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Matiari, Sanghar, Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Shaheed Benazirabad, Jamshoro, Sukkur, Ghotki, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Khairpur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Dadu and Naushahro Feroze.

Isolated heavy falls with gusty winds/windstorms are likely in southeastern/lower Sindh during this period. Torrential rains may cause inundation in low-lying areas of southeast/lower Sindh from 26th to 28th August. Gusty winds/windstorms and lightning may damage weak structures like electric poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels.

Karachi’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 33-35°C on Monday and Tuesday.

Hyderabad’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 37-39°C on Monday and Tuesday.

Meanwhile, isolated rain-wind/thundershowers occurred in Southeastern Sindh during the last 24 hours.

Nawabshah, Dadu and Mohenjo-Daro remained the hottest places in Sindh where the maximum temperature was recorded at 40°C.

In Karachi, maximum temperature was recorded at 36°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 59 per cent.

In Hyderabad, maximum temperature was recorded at 39°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 45 per cent.
