During a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, JUI-Sindh Secretary General Allama Rashid MahmoodSoomro announced plans for a public referendum against the Sindh government, terming it as an assembly of fraudulent elections.
Soomro emphasized that the upcoming assembly, dubbed as the “Public Assembly,” would empower the public to decide whether the current legislative body truly represents their interests. Present at the press conference were key figures including ZiaurRahman, JUI’s Central Digital Media Coordinator, Islam Ghouri, JUI’s Central Spokesperson, Abdul RazzaqAbidLakho, Maulana Muhammad Ghayas, MaulanaNaseerSoomro, MaulanaSamiulHaq Swati, and Hafiz SirajChanna.
Highlighting the sacrifices made by religious parties for democratic norms in the country, Soomro cited the efforts of MaulanaFazlurRehman towards promoting democracy and the role of religious factions in the restoration of parliamentary supremacy.
He reiterated the need for the nation to unite against terrorism, with particular reference to FazlurRehman’s issuance of a fatwa against terrorists. Soomro condemned the alleged manipulation of mandates despite numerous sacrifices, including the martyrdom of his father, Dr. Khalid MahmoodSoomro, in defense of the national constitution. Regarding their current agenda, he outlined four key objectives, including combating electoral fraud in the 2024 general elections, advocating for oppressed Muslim Palestinians, dispelling unnecessary controversies around the finality of Prophethood, and addressing the issue of dacoit gangs in Sindh. Soomro stressed that the struggle of JUI would persist, maintaining their presence among the people and making decisions in their best interests, rather than engaging in backdoor politics.
