Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi, Munim Zafar Khan, has declared that a successful shutter-down strike on August 28 will force the government to address the issues of high electricity costs and oppressive taxes. Speaking at a press conference at Idara Noor Haq, Khan emphasized that the strike will reflect public and business dissatisfaction with government policies. Khan, following an appeal from Jamaat-e-IslamiPakistan’s Amir Engr Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, stated that the strike will demonstrate a lack of confidence in current government policies. He criticized the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for its 16-year rule in Sindh, which, according to him, has been marked by inefficiency, particularly evident during annual rains that expose the incompetence of provincial authorities and KMC.

Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi, Munim Zafar Khan also condemned K-Electric for providing Karachi residents with the highest electricity rates in the country while failing to improve its outdated infrastructure. Despite a substantial annual subsidy, residents continue to face load shedding and inflated bills.

Khan noted that Jamaat-e-Islami has been vocal on issues related to K-Electric and city-wide problems, positioning itself as a genuine representative of public concerns. Khan further criticized the PPP and MuttahidaQaumi Movement (MQM) for their roles in perpetuating the issues through their political dominance, which he believes has led to the imposition of ineffective and exploitative measures on the populace.

He also expressed frustration over the disparity between the tax contributions of wealthy landowners and ordinary citizens, and the inadequate governmental response to these inequalities. The Jamaat-e-Islami leader emphasized that the upcoming strike represents the collective voice of the nation, which is grappling with soaring inflation and unemployment.

Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi, Munim Zafar Khan argued that the strike will be a crucial step in pressuring the government to acknowledge and act on the demands of Karachi’s businesses and residents, thus addressing the severe economic and infrastructural issues facing the city.
