Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi’s leader, MuneemZafar Khan, has announced a protest against the deteriorating state of the city, the crumbling infrastructure, water crisis, and poor sanitation. The protest will take place at the KMC Head Office on August 24. Elected representatives of Jamaat-e-Islami, including town and union council chairmen, vice chairmen, and councilors, will participate. Other political parties’ local government representatives have also been invited to join the demonstration. MunemZafar Khan highlighted that the protest aims to expose the incompetence and poor performance of the Sindh government and Karachi’s mayor. He accused the Sindh government of maintaining an adversarial stance towards Karachi by delaying the issuance of the PFC Award.
He also called for Sindh Solid Waste Management and Water Corporation to be placed under town administration and for financial and administrative powers to be transferred to town chairmen. Khan further urged the Chief Justice to take suomoto notice of the tragic incident on Karsaz Road, where Imran Arif and his daughter Amina lost their lives due to a speeding vehicle.
He assured the victims’ families of Jamaat-e-Islami’s full legal support. Khan also criticized the government’s negligence in completing the Red Line project, stating that it has become a threat to public safety with no clear completion date. He accused the Sindh government of withholding billions of rupees from Karachi, despite receiving substantial funds from the federal government.
He attributed the city’s pressing issues, such as dilapidated roads, piles of garbage, severe water shortages, and sewage problems, directly to the incompetence of the Sindh government and Karachi’s mayor. MunemZafar Khan vowed that Jamaat-e-Islami would continue its movement for Karachi’s rights and that further protests would be staged if the government and mayor do not change their course.
