Islamabad, Pakistan weather; more rains, snowfall, hailstorm predicted

ISLAMABAD – More rains, isolated hailstorms and snowfall over the mountains are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Monday evening/night and Tuesday, says the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

According to the synoptic situation, a westerly prevails over the western and upper parts of Pakistan. It is likely to strengthen during the next 12 hours.

Under these conditions, more rain wind-thunderstorm with snowfall over hills is expected in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Potohar region, Islamabad, upper Punjab and northern Balochistan on Monday evening/night and Tuesday. Moderate to heavy rain with snowfall over hills is likely in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galyat and Potohar regions. Isolated hailstorms are also expected during the forecast period.

Heavy rain/snowfall may cause the closure of roads in Murree, Galyat, Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch and Havellian from Monday to Tuesday. The possibility of landslides in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan cannot be ruled out during the forecast period.

Islamabad’s minimum temperatures will likely remain between 10-12 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and 09-11 C on Wednesday.

Rawalpindi’s minimum temperatures will likely remain between 10-12 C on Tuesday and 09-11 on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over hills occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Islamabad, upper/south Punjab, northern Balochistan and Gilgit Baltistan during the last 24 hours.

Kalam remained the coldest place in the country where mercury dropped 05 C below freezing.

In Islamabad, minimum temperature was recorded at 12 C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 83 per cent.

In Rawalpindi, minimum temperature was recorded at 12 C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 72 per cent.
