ISLAMABAD – Damaged fiber optic cable is disrupting internet services in several Pakistani cities, including the federal capital Islamabad and Peshawar on Tuesday.
It was reported that fiber optic cable was set on fire in the capital city. The fire incident located near Ninth Avenue bridge in I-9 Sector in the metropolis. The internet services caused issues in Islamabad, Peshawar, Murree, and Abbottabad.
Slow Internet in Pakistan
Initial probe reveals that a group of unknown individuals set fire to an underground fiber optic cable. The fire was brought under control by noon but it disrupted the internet services. Officials are working on repair and maintenance of damaged fiber optic cable.
It also caused financial losses worth millions of rupees to the banking, telecom, and other sectors. Fiber optics experts said it would take few more hours to fully restore services.
They also mentioned that this was fourth or fifth incident of fiber optic cable fire in recent months.
