ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Mohsin Raza Naqvi opted not to use the minister’s office in narcotics ministry office in bid to trim expenses as the new government is taking austerity measures.
Soon after taking the coveted post of Interior Ministry, Mohsin Naqvi said he is closing office of the Ministry of Narcotics Control and integrating its operations into the Interior Ministry.
In a social media post, the Interior minister announced not to use the minister’s office within the narcotics ministry premises.
He said the key objective of merging the office was to streamline operations, saving resources, and eliminating unnecessary burden on the national kitty.
Naqvi also visited the Narcotics Control Ministry earlier this week and directed the staff of the narcotics minister’s office to be reassigned to other positions, stressing the urge to utilize manpower effectively.
The new minister chaired a meeting of narcotics department ministry where he was briefed about its affairs by the ministry’s secretary. He stressed importance of drug control for safeguarding upcoming generations, saying all available resources would be utilized to combat drug addiction.
