UNDER Modi Junta, India has become a dangerous place for followers of various religions other than Hinduism. Especially violent attacks and controversial legislation against Muslims has made India an unliveable land for them.
As world observed the international day commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief on Saturday, our Foreign Office sent out a timely reminder regarding BJP-RSS regime’s sinister design of cleansing India of the vestiges of its Islamic heritage and making Muslim second class citizens or even non-citizens. Indeed the sufferings of Indian Muslims at the hands of extremist Hindus are no longer a secret but very much on record. Incidents of lynching Muslim cow farmers and deliberate hate campaign started against the Muslims after breakout of Covid-19 clearly exposed true extremist and intolerant face of Modi’s India. The concerns to this effect have also been voiced by several human rights organisations. Also the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) in its recent report urged the Trump Administration to impose targeted sanctions on Indian government agencies and officials responsible for severe violations of religious freedom by freezing those individuals’ assets and/or barring their entry into the United States.
Modi’s extremist policies pose a threat to regional peace, security and time has come that Indian government is held accountable for serious crimes it is committing on its land as well as in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. All Muslim countries also have a moral responsibility to raise voice in support of their oppressed Muslim brethren.
