ISLAMABAD – The Election Tribunal on Wednesday ruled that Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), is ineligible to participate in the upcoming elections not only from Lahore but also from Mianwali.
The decision came after Returning Officer in NA-89 Mianwali rejected the nomination papers of Imran Khan, prompting Khan to file an appeal with the tribunal.
The Islamabad High Court Election Tribunal, presided over by Justice Chaudhry Aziz, heard the Imran Khan’s appeal.
During the proceedings, PTI leader Ali Zafar presented arguments in support of Khan’s eligibility. However, the tribunal, in a decision issued on January 7, upheld the rejection of Imran Khan’s appeal.
In a subsequent development today, the Election Tribunal dismissed Imran Khan’s appeal against the rejection of nomination papers from NA-89 Mianwali.
This decision followed a previous ruling by the Election Tribunal, which had already declared Imran Khan ineligible to contest elections from NA-122 Lahore.
Imran Khan had initially submitted nomination papers for three National Assembly constituencies, namely NA-122 Lahore, NA-89 Mianwali, and Islamabad. However, the tribunal has now barred him from contesting in two of these constituencies.
