ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan, in his latest action of dialing his tirade against the country’s former top general, approached President Arif Alvi demanding a quick inquiry against General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa over ‘violation of his oath and Constitution of Pakistan’.
PTI chief is up in arms against the military ruler since the latter stepped down from the coveted post. Of late, the cricketer-turned-politician penned a letter to President Dr. Arif Alvi, calling for action against Bajwa.
It was learnt that Imran Khan’s close aide Shibli Faraz delivered the letter to President’s House in the capital.
Quoting startling revelations of a noted Pakistani journalist from one of his recent columns, Khan, a known critic of the security establishment, said: “He [Mr Bajwa] has admitted to journalist Javed Chaudhry that ‘we’ (and it would be critical to ascertain from him who was the ‘we’ in reference to) considered Imran Khan dangerous to the country if he continued to stay in power.”
Raising questions at the alleged statement of Mr. Bajwa, Imran maintained only the people through elections can decide who they want to elect as prime minister, calling it a sheer violation of his oath citing Third Schedule Article 244 of the Constitution.
The letter further mentioned that Bajwa conceded that he helped Shaukat Tarin getting away with a case from anti-graft watchdog, reiterating it as a clear violation of the Constitutional oath, adding that National Accountability Burea does not come under armed forces.
Borrowing the words of the country’s famous TV show host Aftab Iqbal, Khan continued saying that Gen Bajwa told Aftab Iqbal that he had tapes of the PTI chief. “The question is why and under what authorisation was Gen Bajwa recording confidential conversations?” he questioned.
PTI chief said Gen Bajwa again violated oath when he remained defiant against the government’s policy of being neutral in the Russia-Ukraine war.
The ousted premier added that it was the duty of the president and supreme commander of the armed forces to take action and start a probe to establish whether such grave violations of the Constitution and oath of Office under the Constitution have taken place.
