ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday ordered the relevant authorities to immediatey release former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry in a case related to land in Jhelum Pind Dadan Khan project
A IHC division bench headed by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri passed the order on bail plea of the former leader.
During the hearing, Advocate Qaisar Imam represented Fawad Chaudhary and argued that the arrest warrants were issued on December 18, 2023, and the five allegations were leveled against Fawad Chaudhry.
He argued that his client was accused of using the political influence in the project.
On it, NAB prosecutor Rafay Maqsood said, “We have a witness who says that Fawad Chaudhry took a bribe of fifty lakh rupees.”
Chief Justice Aamer Farooq remarked, “How does fifty lakh rupees fall under NAB’s jurisdiction?”.
In response, NAB prosecutor said, “The case is still in the inquiry stage, further details are being obtained, all the relevant institutions including FIA are informed,”.
Expressing dismay over this, Chief Justice Aamer Farooq remarked, “Did NAB write later for evidence and arrest the person first? What are the central evidences against Fawad Chaudhry with NAB?”.
The NAB prosecutor referred to the decisions of the Supreme Court.
However, CJ Farooq remarked, “Leave it, first tell us the evidence,”.
Later, the court granted bail to Fawad Chaudhry and ordered his immediate release.
