ISLAMABAD – Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamer Farooq on Tuesday expressed concerns over issue of slow internet speed in the country, issuing notices to the relevant authorities.
The court was hearing a petition challenging both slow internet speed and the installation of firewalls, which could be affecting connectivity.
Representing the petitioner, Advocate Imaan Mazari appeared before the court.
During the proceedings, Chief Justice Aamer Farooq inquired, “Has the internet slowed down recently? Before we issue any order, explain what is actually happening. Which ministry is responsible for this, and what is causing the drop in internet speed? Should we seek answers from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) or the Ministry of Information Technology?”
Advocate Mazari informed the court that the PTA had remained silent on the issue, leaving users frustrated and without any clear explanation for the slowdown.
The Chief Justice then asked, “Should we summon the Secretary or the Joint Secretary?”
Advocate Mazari suggested that senior officials from the relevant ministries be called upon to clarify the situation.
In response, Chief Justice Farooq observed that the court would summon whoever is knowledgeable about the issue and can provide a detailed briefing.
After hearing initial arguments, the CJ issued notices to the concerned parties and adjourned the case until Monday.
