In a crucial meeting convened at the Central Police Office, Karachi, under the chairmanship of Inspector General (I.G.) Sindh GhulamNabiMemon, detailed discussions were held regarding police action against scrap dealers involved in the buying and selling of stolen goods in the city. Essential directives were issued to address the matter effectively.

Present at the meeting were zonal Deputy Inspectors General (D.I.G.s), Senior Superintendents of Police (S.S.P.s), Assistant Commissioners (A.C.s), and representatives from the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) and the Rapid Response Force (RRF). They were briefed separately on the recent actions taken against scrap dealers involved in the purchase and sale of stolen goods across various areas of the city.

The AVLC informed that during the past ten days, 352 scrap dealers were checked, resulting in the apprehension of 79 suspects under 55 First Information Reports (FIRs).

It was revealed during the briefing that many arrested suspects confessed to either selling stolen goods in exchange for drugs or being involved in drug trafficking syndicates. Moreover, it was highlighted that due to comprehensive and organized crackdowns against scrap dealers, significant amounts of stolen goods previously dumped in warehouses were recovered. Furthermore, investigations unveiled that scrap dealers often sell stolen construction material obtained from major government projects. I.G. Sindh instructed all police officers to intensify efforts against drug mafias and gangs at the grassroots level.

He emphasized the importance of building trust between the public and the police by addressing community issues and concerns directly. To this end, he mandated that all officers meet with the public from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.

The police were directed to inform the Additional Inspector General (Investigation) prior to the arrest of any suspects. This measure aims to strengthen coordination and enhance the effectiveness of investigations and subsequent actions. Additionally, it was noted that the establishment of checkpoints on major roads has led to a reduction in crimes. However, it was stressed that commendation should also be given to officers and youths for their active involvement in crime prevention activities.

Police officers were urged to ensure strict compliance with the law by refraining from engaging in transactions with unregistered or unauthorized dealers involved in the sale of stolen goods. I.G. Sindh emphasized that tackling street crimes and the trade of stolen goods is paramount for maintaining law and order in the city. I.G. Sindh announced the formation of a committee comprising D.I.G. West, D.I.G. Establishment, S.S.P. AVLC, and A.I.G. Legal to ensure the implementation of all necessary directives.
