NEW YORK – Pakistan team’s hotel in New York has been changed after PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi took notice of the hotel at the long distance from the stadium, the sources familiar with the development said on Thursday.

The sources said that PCB Chairman contacted the International Cricket Council and expressed concerns over the lack of facilities for the Pakistani team.

Mohsin Naqvi convinced the event organizers to change the hotel for the Pakistani team.

The sources revealed that the hotel where the national team was initially supposed to stay was a 90-minute drive from the stadium, whereas the new hotel is only a five-minute drive from the stadium.

Mohsin Naqvi told the ICC that he would not allow his team to travel long distances for any T20 World Cup matches including the matches in New York on June 9 and 11.

The sources said that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi made it clear to the ICC that if the Pakistani team’s hotel was not changed, he would move the team to a better and more convenient location at PCB’s expense.

He emphasized that the national cricket team is the board’s responsibility, and they would ensure the players’ comfort at all costs.

The sources also said that the Indian cricket team is staying only 10 minutes away from the ground in New York while other teams’ hotels are more than an hour away. South Africa and Sri Lanka have already expressed concerns over the facilities provided during their stay in New York.

It may be mentioned here that Pakistan cricket team will depart for New York immediately after their match against the USA on Thursday.

The team will face traditional rivals India on June 9 and Canada on June 11, while their final first-round match will be against Ireland on June 16.
