As a result of an air force helicopter crash in Ghor province, one person died and twelve others were injured.

The Ministry of Defense in a statement said that the helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing due to technical problems.

The Defense Ministry’s statement said that the helicopter had traveled from Herat to Ghor to remove the bodies of flood victims whose vehicle had sunk in the Harirod River two days earlier.

The statement said: “This morning, an (MI 17) type aircraft of the country’s air forces, which had been dispatched to extract the bodies of some of our compatriots who had previously fallen into the Harirod River in Ghor province with a certain type of vehicle, suffered technical complications after the rescue and hit a wall during the emergency landing in the city of Firozkoh, resulting in its crash. Unfortunately, as a result, one person was martyred and twelve other passengers were injured.”

Local officials in Ghor province said that the helicopter had come from Herat to Ghor this morning to extract the bodies of several civilians whose vehicle had sunk in the Harirod River near the city of Firozkoh.

The air force helicopter crashed into the Harirod River in the center of Firozkoh city after hitting a wall of Ghor’s governance building.

“We were just passing by when the helicopter flew over us and then, unfortunately, crashed,” Samiullah, a witness to the event, told TOLOnews.

“The helicopter took off and was heading towards Herat, then it hit a wall and fell,” said Abdul Hamid, another witness.

The vehicle carrying civilians had veered off the road in the vicinity of Firozkoh city while traveling from Herat to Ghor two days earlier and fell into the floodwaters of the Harirod River. Two passengers of this vehicle died, and another person was rescued by security forces.—Tolonews
