KARACHI – The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has warned people against some elements who hack WhatsApp accounts by posing as representatives of the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The warning has been issued by the FIA Cyber Crime Circle, asking people to stay alert in order keep their accounts safe from such hacking attacks.

FIA officials told media that the individuals involved in such illegal activities send a code to users under the pretext of verifying their degrees and ask them to share it. As soon as the users share the code, their WhatsApp accounts are hacked.

The FIA has advised citizens not to share any code in response to unknown messages or calls and to report such calls or messages to its cyber wing.

It is recalled that HEC has introduced online receipt of attestation fee through 1-link with effect from 5th August, 2023. Applicants will have to first pay the attestation fee online through 1-link and verify the payment in their profile. After verification of payment, the option of download application form will be enabled on applicants’ profile.
