Imran Khan on Friday said that the government was not feeling threatened from any movement launched by the opposition parties. He further asked the participants of the meeting to expose the negative narrative of the opposition leaders.
Imran Khan was chairing a meeting of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leaders and government’s spokesmen to review counter strategy against the protests and public gatherings announced by the opposition parties.
The meeting reviewed the ongoing political situation, measures taken to bring back Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Nawaz Sharif and other issues.
Speaking during the meeting, the prime minister said that entire nation stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the armed forces of the country. “There is no civil-military tensions and the armed forces are standing alongside the democratic government within their constitutional limit,” he said.
They [opposition] have issues with the armed forces because the latter had caught their corruption, the prime minister said while terming the enemies of the armed forces as the enemies of the country.
“The government will defend its institutions and will jointly foil the Indian conspiracy with the support of masses,” PM Imran Khan said and directed the party leaders to mobilize for the cause.
He said that the opposition would not get an NRO and their only issue is that they are neither getting a deal nor dheel (leniency). “I know the conspirators behind this Indian bid to create a political disturbance in the country,” he said but vowed to counter the Indian narrative with full force.
In a reference to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Imran Khan said that those who were enemies of the Pakistan Army were enemies of the country.
Pakistan’s largest opposition parties including the PPP, the PML-N and the JUI-F have formed a multi-party alliance known as the Pakistan Democratic Movement. The PDM has called for Imran Khan’s resignation and announced protests all over the country starting October 11 in Quetta.
The prime minister criticised Nawaz Sharif’s diatribe against the army, saying that his statements appease India. “Nawaz Sharif is towing India’s narrative,” added Imran.
Imran Khan’s comments came a day after Nawaz lashed out at the establishment and the government, saying that he will no longer remain silent. “Nawaz Sharif is not made of the kind of stuff that can stand remaining quiet on dual standards of accountability,” he said, adding that “no one should try to silence him”.
He said that although the prime minister “is to blame” for the country’s current state, “it is those who brought him into power who are truly responsible”.
