PPP Senator and former minister Sherry Rehman, has called for political unity to address all issues and problems being faced by Pakistan. She has stressed severe need for fundamental reset of policies and shunning divisive attitude for consensus on core issues.
In a TV interview series with members of Corporate Group Pakistan, a caucus comprising the country’s intelligentsia, the vibrant politician was of the view concerted approach is need of the time to steer country out of crisis and an individual,, how charismatic figure he might be, would not do the job. Strengthening institutions should be done to be on track of progress and prosperity.
She recommended political accommodation to strengthen federation and policies in consultation with federating units and also following totally 18th Amendment to spearhead the country to prosperity and for better law and order. “The government should reach out to dissenting elements and dialogue is the main essence of parliamentary system and panacea to all evils.”
The Senator said that at present the economy is in dire straits, “almost crippling,” and the incumbent government has crossed the acceptable debt limits and has become aid dependent. “A stable economy is the main pillar of strong country and only democracy can put us together.” She was astonished that an agricultural country is facing high inflation of essential food items. “Only insane policies are reason to it.”
She affirmed that all political parties across the divide are with the government on Kashmir policy no matter that the government attitude is not at all reasonable for amicable environment.
