The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) celebrated Malawi’s Independence Day, welcoming the appointment of Abdullah Zaki as the Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Malawi. FPCCI President AtifIkram Sheikh emphasized the potential this new appointment holds for boosting trade relations between Pakistan and Malawi.

AtifIkram Sheikh expressed confidence in Mr. Abdullah Zaki’s ability to foster stronger economic ties, noting that Zaki, being a part of the business community, is well-positioned to open new avenues for Pakistani exporters in Malawi. Sheikh highlighted that despite Malawi’s population of 25 million, Pakistan’s current exports to the Southeast African nation amount to only US 9 million annually, indicating significant room for growth. Abdullah Zaki, in his new role as Honorary Consul General, outlined the vast opportunities for Pakistani exporters in sectors such as textiles, rice, pharmaceuticals, surgical instruments, sports goods, construction materials, and motorcycles.

He also pointed out the favorable business conditions in Malawi, including low labor costs and taxation, making it an attractive destination for Pakistani industrialists. SaquibFayyazMagoon, Senior Vice President of FPCCI, proposed that Pakistani business professionals should be granted swift visas to explore the Malawian market.

He also suggested enhancing cultural and people-to-people relations, noting the significant footprint of Pakistani businessmen in Malawi and the presence of a considerable Muslim population in the country.
