President Dr Arif Alvi presented gallantry awards on the occasion of March 23 to four officers of Sindh police in recognition of their services for restoring writ of the government in the criminal-infested areas such as Kandhkot-Kashmore and Ghotki.
DIG Mazhar Nawaz Sheikh, SSP Bashir Ahmed Brohi, former SSP Amjad Sheikh and SSP Tunveer Hussain Tunio received the honour at a programme held in the Presidential House Islamabad. Former SSP Kandhkot-Kashmore Amjad Shaikh and present SSP Ghotki Tunveer Hussain Tunio maintained peace in their jurisdictions and rid the areas of notorious outlaws and dacoits. It is said that the way the former SSP Kashmore Amjad Hussain Sheikh conducted police operation against criminals and dacoits in the riverine areas of the district, no other police official had ever done it previously.
Under his leadership, the Kashmore police gunned down many hardened dacoits and seized their sophisticated weapons and freed the government land worth more than Rs40 million from the illegal occupation of the outlaws. When SSP Tunveer Tunio was deputed in Shikarpur district, he conducted operations against notorious dacoits, killing several of them while many others surrendered to police. He also cleared several ‘No-Go Areas’ in Shikarpur district and established police checkpoints there.
Citizens of the Kashmore, Shikarpur and Ghotki districts expressed delight over the news that the four brave police officers had been given gallantry awards. They hoped that such acts would encourage other Sindh police officers to work professionally and serve public.
